When my mother first believed she was pregnant, she was in an incredibly destructive relationship. Her husband was an alcoholic, both physically and verbally abusive; and she feared not only for herself but for her child. She decided to have an abortion.

At that time, abortions were free in California; so, she planned to return home and secretly gave money to a friend for safekeeping. However, when the time came to leave, upon asking for her savings, the friend replied, “What money? I’ve spent it.” My mother had no way home. She had no way out.

A few weeks later, her husband found an ad in the paper and placed it on the coffee table. The ad said, “‘Hey, I’m alive!’ Voice of the Pre-born, Edgewood Baptist Church”. It was a crisis pregnancy center. She made an appointment, and after being tested, confirmed her pregnancy. The center would not aid her in an abortion but asked if she would come back for counseling. She agreed.

When my mother returned for counseling, she began to read a magazine, LIFE. In 1965, the magazine had documented a baby’s pre-born life, illustrating with photographs each stage of development, from conception to birth. She could not believe her eyes. She saw fingers and toes, arms and legs, tiny hands and feet. She read about heartbeats and brainwaves, kicking and movement. Life. She never realized the one growing inside her was alive. In that moment, she became certain of only one thing. She did not know what the future might bring, but whatever the future held, she and her baby would endure it together.

All these years later, here I stand, because the baby she saved—is me.

As one rescued from abortion, Antionette Duck is a Seventh-day Adventist attorney and speaker dedicated to rescuing others. A living testament to the redemptive grace of the LORD, she has come to understand that her faults and failures are not the end of the story, that the story of the Cross is the story of redemption. Before time began, our glorious, sovereign LORD intended to conform us to His image; and He is using all things, our victories and obedience, as well as our failures and our past, to transform us into a thing truly magnificent to behold. She invites you to walk in the redemptive grace that is yours.

“It was at the Generation of Youth for Christ (GYC) Conference in Houston, Texas, 2011, that I met Antionette. We had been to five other conferences but had never seen her organization, Mafgia Ministries, exhibiting before. That was her first year. Her booth caught my eye immediately because it dealt with the sanctity of life. I was impressed with her passion for all life. She had a burden for the unborn, the woman in a crisis pregnancy, and the woman who had gone through the experience of aborting her baby.

I had always avoided “pro-life” type ministries. The exposure I had had in the past had been more damaging than healing. Hers was different. I found myself going past her booth several times throughout the weekend. I looked at pictures of the unborn at various gestational ages- the ages that my babies had been when I chose abortion. I was being compelled to deal with a heartache that I had stuffed deep down inside my soul many years before. I left the hall crying; I wanted to vomit.

My husband, David, and I had the opportunity to speak with Antionette, and she told us her story. Her mother, though planning to have an abortion, had been spared that traumatic decision through Christian counseling. Antionette’s life had been spared. If Antionette had been judgmental or critical towards the woman in a crisis pregnancy, she would’ve never seen me again. But she wasn’t. She had experienced the Lord’s redemptive power in her own personal life, and she seemed to get it, that, “there, but for the grace of God, go I.” I left that GYC wanting everything that the Lord could give to me. I wanted healing. I wanted to experience my Savior’s full redemption. For the first time, I had hope.

My first-born would’ve been 31-years-old this month. I found what I was looking for, and I know I will see my babies again.

I am committed to encouraging women who are post-abortive to experience what the Lord can do for them. “No pit is so deep that He is not deeper still.” There is healing in His wings. I’ve experienced it. Please, if reading this has put a desire in your heart for reconciliation, a desire for healing, don't put off getting help. The Lord is anxious to show you what He can do for you.”

Dianne Peeples Wagner has walked alongside her best friend and husband of over 30 years, David, and is the mother of four grown children. She retired from nursing to be a stay-at-home mom and homeschool her children. Being a post-abortive woman herself, Dianne knows firsthand the crippling shame that comes from choosing abortion over life for her unborn child. She also knows the sweet, redemptive love of a Heavenly Father and Creator. By seeking Godly counsel, she was able to deal with denial and grief, experience full forgiveness and finally embrace the sweet re-creative power of her Lord and Savior. Dianne is committed to encouraging other post-abortive women to finally address the pain that is so often stuffed away and experience being fully redeemed through Jesus Christ.
